The London 2012 mascots Wenlock and Mandeville are set star on the pages of iconic British children’s comic The Beano this week.

Wenlock and Mandeville’s adventures are hitting high street shelves across the country as they make their first appearance in The Beano.

A special story in The Beano which follows the mascots learning to swim will feature in the 31 August edition of The Beano. Wenlock and Mandeville’s adventure will feature alongside regular Beano stories including Dennis the Menace and Minnie the Minx in the weekly comic, which was first published in 1938.

Wenlock and Mandeville will feature in further issues of The Beano in the lead up to Games time, where stories of the mascot’s journey across the UK learning different sports in time for the Olympic and Paralympic Games will feature.

LOCOG Chair, Seb Coe said: ‘This is another exciting way to bring the mascots’ experiences of meeting new people and trying new sports to millions of young people across the UK. This is a creative way to engage children in the Olympic and Paralympic values.’

The news comes just days after the mascot’s new film launched in ODEON cinemas across the UK, and marks another way in which the London 2012 mascots have been busy inspiring young people since they were launched in 2010.
