Local Surrey residents to get top views of Road Race test event
Residents in Surrey have been offered the chance to see world-class sporting action from unique vantage points at the London-Surrey Cycle Classic, the London 2012 Olympic Road Race test event, on 14 August.

The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) has donated wristbands to local district and borough councils to allow Surrey residents to watch the race from restricted access areas at The Mall in central London and Box Hill in Surrey.
Areas of The Mall will be cordoned off to emulate the grandstand seating that will be in place at Games time, while access to an area on Zig Zag Road in Box Hill, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and one of the most important nature conservation sites in Europe, will be restricted to protect the wildlife there.
The donation scheme is also being extended to British Cycling, the national governing body for cycling the in the UK, so that cycling enthusiasts, club members and fans also get the chance to watch from the best vantage points. The London-Surrey Cycle Classic is a 1.2 world ranking event and an opportunity for cyclists to compete on the route that will be used for next year’s Olympic Games. A total of 148 athletes will tackle the course, while LOCOG will test a wide range of elements including technology, timing, results, officials, security and equipment.
Seb Coe, LOCOG Chair, said: ‘The London-Surrey Classic is going to be a fantastic race. Our course with its interesting route and impressive technical elements has attracted the best nations and pro cycling teams in the world, so this really is a trial run for the games in 2012.
‘Locals should plan their travel carefully using council websites to find out about any impact on travel plans.’
Spectators without wristbands can enjoy the race at other points along the 140km long route, details of which can be found on the London Prepares series website
