The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) today confirmed that last week’s BT Paralympic World Cup in Manchester saw a number of world records broken in track and field events.

South African ‘Blade Runner’ Oscar Pistorius set a new T43 world record in the men’s 400m, recording a time of 47.28 seconds. In the same race, Richard Whitehead of Great Britain set a new T42 world record with a time of 57.06.

In the field events, Saudi Arabia’s Hani Alankhilli broke the discus world record in the F33 class with a throw of 31.29m, while the world record in the women’s F40 shot put also fell, with Paralympic champion Raoua Tlili of Tunisia throwing 9.73m.

Elsewhere, Great Britain’s Daniel Greaves broke his own discus F44 world record with a throw of 59.27 metres, and world champion Pawel Piotrowski of Poland also set a new world record, throwing 43.86m in the men’s F36 Javelin.

In addition to these world records, six European, four American, three African and three Asian records were also set in Manchester.

This year’s event was the seventh annual BT Paralympic World Cup, the largest annual international multi-sport competition in elite disability sport.

Great Britain were crowned overall champions on the final day of the competition, which saw the world’s best Paralympic swimmers in action at the Manchester Aquatics Centre.
