International Paralympic Day will be a great preview of London 2012!
I’ll be attending International Paralympic Day on 8 September and am really excited about taking part in such a momentous event.
I’ll be one of nearly 100 international athletes in Trafalgar Square hoping to give the public a taste of what they can expect at London 2012. With tickets going on sale the following day, I think it’s a fantastic chance for people to find out a bit more about sports they may not be familiar with, such as Boccia or Goalball.
There are going to be a lot of people there and it’s going to be great to show the British public what Paralympic sport has to offer. I hope it really builds excitement levels ahead of next year.
I’m really excited about competing at London 2012 – it’s going to be an extremely big deal! I’m looking forward to it all the more having finally beaten my big rival and good friend Oscar Pistorius earlier this year at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Christchurch.
Winning at that event has really changed things, and was a great confidence booster for me going into London 2012. It showed me that through hard work and dedication anything is possible, and also meant I’m going to be sponsored by a major company for London 2012.
I was really excited to see Oscar out in Daegu for the IAAF World Championships last week. Being physically disabled should not stop you from doing anything, and seeing him competing in Daegu showed the calibre of the sport that you are going to see at the Paralympic Games next year.
For anyone considering attending the Paralympic Games you can expect to see a great example of the human will that we’ve been given. We’ve overcome challenges and, in your life, you can overcome challenges too. So come along to the Games – and to International Paralympic Day – and get ready to be inspired!
