The London 2012 Volleyball test event concluded at Earls Court today with an exciting re-run of the Beijing 2008 Olympic final between the USA and Brazil.

The five-day event, a small scale version of the Olympic Volleyball competition with 15 matches played in a round-robin style competition, came to an exciting climax as the Brazilian team beat Olympic champions USA, taking revenge for their loss in Beijing.

Team GB also finished their Olympic dress rehearsal in style with an impressive win against Egypt, while Serbia took the overall competition title on points.

Throughout the event, the court, officials, athlete flows, technology, results and lighting have all been tested during matches featuring teams from Brazil, Egypt, Great Britain, Mexico, Serbia and USA.

Debbie Jevans, LOCOG Director of Sport, said: ‘This competition, our fifth test event, was about testing specific elements of our operation and was not a full dress rehearsal. It was a good opportunity to look at lighting, the field of play and other operational aspects and it was important to have some of the best athletes in the world competing.

‘Another focus was the opportunity to familiarise our workforce team with Earls Court. This venue has a great Olympic history, it was the venue for Boxing, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Gymnastics at the 1948 London Games and it’s fantastic that we can add the London 2012 Olympic Volleyball Competition to its great history of events.’
