Below are the Terms and conditions for those nominating someone to participate in the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay (the ‘Torch Relay’)

‘Nominator’ means the person nominating an individual to participate in the Torch Relay.
‘Nominee’ means the person being nominated. Successful Nominees are referred to as ‘Torchbearers’.
‘LOCOG’ means The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Limited.

Nomination process
1.1. Nominators must either complete the nomination form on this website or make a nomination by calling the Contact Centre (the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay helpline). The closing date for nominations is 29 June 2011. Nominations received after this date will not be included in the process. Nominators who have successfully submitted a nomination will receive an email confirming that the entry has been accepted. If you have made your nomination through the Contact Centre and you do not have an email address, you will be contacted by the Contact Centre by phone, rather than by email, throughout the process.
2. After the closing date for entries, there will be a ballot of Nominees to produce a shortlist. The ballot will be automated and applications will not be judged at this preliminary stage in the process. Only one nomination per person, selected at random, will be put into the ballot.
3. Nominees who are successful in the ballot will be sent an email the week commencing 8 August 2011. Shortlisted Nominees must respond to this email from LOCOG by 16 September 2011 to confirm: (i) that they would like to continue to participate in the process; (ii) the accuracy of the information held about them, including the nomination story (Nominees will only be able to make minor amendments to the story which the Nominator submitted about them); and (iii) that they agree to the Terms and conditions of participation for Torchbearers. LOCOG will not chase Nominees who do not respond by the specified date. Non-responsive Nominees will be removed from the shortlist.
4. Nominators whose nominations are not successful in the ballot will be sent an email confirming this by 15 August 2011.
5. Shortlisted nominations will be judged by a panel of judges based in the nation or region in which the Nominee is resident. The judging of nominations will be under the supervision of LOCOG and all decisions of the judges or LOCOG will be final.
6. Nominees who are unsuccessful in the judging process, and the person who has nominated them, will be sent an email confirming this during the week commencing 5 December 2011.
7. Nominees who are successful in the judging process will be sent an email during the week commencing 5 December 2011. Nominees will be asked to reply to the email and complete the requested details in full by 13 February 2012. LOCOG will not chase Nominees who do not respond by the specified date. Non-responsive Nominees will have their Torchbearer place offered to another Nominee without notification to the Nominator or Nominee.
8. Torchbearers will be subject to background and/or other security checks.
9. Torchbearers will be allocated to a town and to a particular slot on the Torch Relay. Further details about the Torchbearer’s participation in the Torch Relay will be provided to them in subsequent correspondence from LOCOG. Torchbearers will be given the opportunity to advise LOCOG of any access or other requirements in relation to their involvement in the Torch Relay.
10. Nominators and Nominees should check that emails received from london2012@mail.comms.london2012.com are added to their Safe Sender list. This will prevent emails from being sent to a Junk or Spam folder and help ensure that Nominees receive all emails setting out the actions they must take to comply with the Torchbearer nomination process conditions. Terms and conditions
1. You must be 12 years of age or older on the date you make the nomination.
2. Nominees must be 12 years of age or older on the date they are nominated in order to be eligible for nomination.
3. Nominees must be resident, and have an address, in the British Isles (not including the Republic of Ireland).
4. Where more than one nomination is received for the same person, only one nomination (selected at random) will be considered for the purposes of the nomination process. Torchbearers are only permitted to carry the Torch in one slot on the Torch Relay.
5. You must have obtained the permission of the Nominee to: (i) nominate them; and (ii) supply their personal details, including the nomination story, for the nomination process. You must explain the application process to the Nominee (including the fact that LOCOG will use their contact details to contact them directly if they are successful in the ballot). You may find it helpful to print the nomination process summary above and provide it to the Nominee. Where the Nominee is under 18 years of age on the date of making this nomination, you must inform the Nominee’s parent/guardian of your intention to nominate the Nominee and obtain the parent/guardian’s consent to do so. Nominees will be asked to confirm the accuracy of the information which you provide if they are successful in the ballot.
6. You are responsible for providing correct details for you and for the Nominee. Incorrect contact details will not be followed up and LOCOG will have the right to reject the nomination.
7. Any nomination which LOCOG considers to be inappropriate (whether because it is not compatible with the Olympic Values or because it contains inappropriate language) will be rejected without notification.
8. Information about Nominees will be validated through different sources. Information must be factually accurate. Inaccurate information about Nominees will result in the nomination being removed from the nomination process or the Torchbearer place being withdrawn.
9. LOCOG’s and the judging panels’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding their decisions. You agree: (i) to release LOCOG and the judging panels from any liability with respect to all aspects of the judging process; and (ii) not to make any claims as a result of, or relating to, the judging process.
10. You agree to the information supplied to LOCOG in connection with your nomination being stored and processed under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998. You agree that this information can be used to verify the accuracy of information provided to LOCOG and/or to investigate any issues in respect of a person’s involvement with the Torch Relay. You also agree to the information being used by LOCOG, and being provided to selected third parties (such as Local Authorities), for the purposes of organising the Torch Relay and/or the London 2012 Games, including to LOCOG’s customer relationship management provider which sends out email communications on behalf of LOCOG and whose servers are based in the United States.
11. You agree that where necessary for the purposes of organising the Torch Relay and/or the London 2012 Games, LOCOG and selected third parties, including Local Authorities, may contact you.
12. Personal information about Nominators and Nominees provided through the nomination process will be removed from LOCOG’s database if a Nominee is unsuccessful in the ballot or through the judging process. Where a Nominee is successful through the nomination process, personal data about the Nominator and Nominee will be deleted from LOCOG’s database when it is no longer required for the purposes contemplated by these Terms and conditions. A Nominator or Nominee may request to be removed from the nomination process, and their data deleted from LOCOG’s database, at any stage. You will continue to receive other communications from LOCOG if you have specifically requested to do so.
13. You agree to be filmed, televised, photographed and/or otherwise recorded in connection with the Torch Relay, and to make yourself available for media and publicity interviews and photographs if required, for the purposes of publicising and promoting the Torch Relay at a time/place convenient to you. You agree that LOCOG, the International Olympic Committee and selected third parties, including the commercial partners of the Torch Relay, the London 2012 Games and future Olympic Games (“Games Partners”), shall be permitted to use such films, photographs and recordings and your image and likeness for the purposes of promoting and publicising the Torch Relay, the London 2012 Games, future Olympic Games and the Olympic and/or Paralympic movements more generally.
14. You confirm that the nomination story is your own work and you agree that from the date you submit your nomination you assign all title to and rights in the content of your nomination to LOCOG, with the effect that the content of your nomination may be used by LOCOG and other selected third parties for the purposes of organising and/or promoting the Torch Relay.
15. Torchbearers will be asked to: (i) agree to LOCOG’s terms and conditions of participation for Torchbearers; (ii) complete a ‘Torchbearer Details Form’ and provide any other documentation (including proof of identity) required by LOCOG to organise the Torch Relay; (iii) consent to background and/or other security checks being carried out on them; and (iv) provide parental consent if they are under 18 when agreeing to the terms and conditions of participation for Torchbearers. The forms and/or information will need to be submitted to LOCOG by specified dates and failure to provide the information by the relevant date will result in the Torchbearer place being withdrawn and the place being offered to another individual.
16. You understand that failure to comply with these Terms and conditions of entry for the nomination process may result in your nomination being rejected.

For under 18s only
If you are under 18 years of age at the time of submitting the nomination, you will be required to provide parental/guardian consent to confirm your voluntary acceptance of these Terms and conditions: (i) by ticking the box on the Nomination form to confirm parental/guardian consent when submitting the nomination; and (ii) in the event that your Nominee is chosen to be a Torchbearer, by sending in a hard copy of these Terms and conditions signed by your parent/guardian. You can do this by downloading, printing off the Terms and conditions document (92Kb) when requested to do so by LOCOG.
