EastEnders and The Olympic Park To Share The Same Postcode
The Olympic Park is to be given the same postcode as the BBC soap opera EastEnders, its has been revealed today.
The site, in Stratford, will get an E20 postcode code, which is currently used by the fictional district of Walford in Eastenders. Walford, the fictional suburb of East London where EastEnders is set, was given the E20 postcode when the BBC launched the soap opera in 1985. The E20 postcode however, did not exist in reality.
The previous highest postcode area in real life East London was E18, around South Woodford. There is no E19.
The new E20 postcode will serve five new neighbourhoods to be created for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The Olympic Stadium will get its own unique E20 2ST postcode.
More than 100 new E20 postcodes will be assigned to locations throughout the site, which will be renamed the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park after the Olympics.
The E20 postcode for the London Olympic Park will also cover neighbouring areas including the apartments in the athletes’ village along with the Westfield Stratford City shopping Centre which will host over 400 retail units.
The new Olympic postcodes will be split into three zones – E20 1, E20 2 and E20 3.
Postcode zones 4 to 9 could be added in future decades as the site expands. Up to 8,000 new homes will be built in the area over the next 20 years
