The Metropolitan police has launched Operation Podium in a bid to close down bogus sites beore the tickets become avaliable for public purchase on March 15th

Detective Chief Inspector Nick Downing told us “we are working to protect the millionsof visitors planning to be part of London 2012 from becoming a victim of crime. People travelling to the UK for the Games need to be confident their tickets are real, they have the hotel they’ve booked and the money they are spendingis going to legitimate business” DCI Downing has a warning for those criminals plotting to rip off the public. “My team are working to identify who you are – from organised ticket touts to those planning to flood london with fake cheques” he added. “We will use whatever powers we have open to us to make life as hard as possible for you. Be assured we’re waching you.

  • Check the website you are buying tickets from is authorised
  • Be wary of sites selling tickets to events before they go on sale
  • Be wary of sites with no UK address or landline phone number
  • Check consumer boards to monitor complaints about websites
